Consecutive CMEs

Three consecutive coronal mass ejections (CMEs) blossomed into STEREO?s field of view over a 39-hour period (May 26-27, 2013) for its COR2 coronagraph. Each one had a unique shape. The first blast was fainter and headed out almost all around the Sun; the second had a bright front that bent out to the upper left; the third presented a narrow path out into space. In a coronagraph, the Sun (represented by a white circle) is blocked out by an occulting disk so that we can observe these fainter structures beyond it. Of course, their 3D properties are only understandable if we have more information, such as the viewpoint of the other STEREO spacecraft as well as SDO.
