STEREO Observes a Transit of Mercury

image204

The STEREO Ahead spacecraft, from its unique vantage point on the far side of the sun, recently observed Mercury as it passed between the spacecraft and the sun (Mar. 5, 2018). This is the second time that STEREO-A has observed a transit of Mercury. The passage took about eight hours. The sun is shown in four wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light. Each one is colorized to quickly identify the wavelength. Credit: STEREO, NASA.
