Coming into View Again

image107

The Active Region last seen about 10 days earlier by STEREO (Ahead) has been spotted by the trailing STEREO (Behind) spacecraft (Nov. 9-10, 2009), now more than 60 degrees away from the earth in its orbit around the Sun. It is still quite substantial in size and moderately active, judging by the video clip. Here we see it rotating into view in profile taken in extreme UV light. The region should begin to be visible from the Sun-Earth line by SOHO and ground-based observers from Nov. 13 and after as the Sun carries it around again. It will take almost two weeks to rotate out of view again. Let's see if it spouts off as many flares as it did last time around. (And note the solar jets spurting out from the solar edge near the bottom of the movie frames.)
