CME Bursts

image132

A coronagraph on the STEREO (Ahead) spacecraft caught at least two photogenic coronal mass ejections (CMEs) over two days (Aug. 7-8, 2010). The first of the two blasts was much more bright and substantial. Although it might appear that this blast was Earth-directed, other views from other spacecraft showed that most of it was not headed our way. Still, we are seeing a rise in solar activity lately as the solar cycle is getting more energetic.
