Sky seen by the SECCHI HIs

image42

Movie made with the FESTIVAL program (http://www.ias.u-psud.fr/stereo/festival/) showing the sky seen by the SECCHI HIs from April to August 2007. The images from STEREO Ahead are on the left, and those from Behind are on the right. The bright object in the right-hand image is Earth, and one can clearly see the Moon revolving about it each month. One can also see an arc-shaped artifact caused by internal reflections within the lens system during part of the movie. The bright object on the left is Venus. If one looks carefully, one can also see Mercury revolving about the Sun within the HI-1 images. The vertical streaks are due to saturation of these bright objects on the detector.
